If you are using XML to power snippets on your website while using the PowerReviews JavaScript for the Review Display, you may experience some discrepancies. For instance, you may be downloading an XML file provided by PowerReviews and storing the data locally, then using your own custom code to call this information to display on your product listing pages (PLPs) or product detail pages (PDPs).
PowerReviews generates the XML at as close to the same time as possible as the scheduled API content refresh, but there is always the risk of a data discrepancy between the two sources of information. PowerReviews is unable to guarantee a specific time for the XML file to be updated, or that this file will be consistent with the information available through our API at any given time.
For this reason, the best practice is to use the PowerReviews JavaScript to ensure that all snippets are also using the same data source as the Review Display. You can find the technical documentation here:
If you choose to utilize the XML for this purpose, be advised that PowerReviews Technical Support will not be able to troubleshoot minor discrepancies between the two sources of data. If you are seeing a significant discrepancy between the information in the XML and the information in the API, please contact PowerReviews Technical Support for assistance.
