Mass advertising, trolling, and attempts at automated content submission are all sources of inauthentic content. To combat this, PowerReviews has partnered with iOvation, an industry leader in device reputation technology.
iOvation is a JavaScript-based solution that generates an encoded device fingerprint string, also known as a 'black box.' This black box contains information about the end user's computing device such as OS, browser, etc. No personally identifying information (PII) is exchanged or maintained.
How PowerReviews Uses iOvation
Upon review submission, some data is transferred from the PowerReviews collection forms over to iOvation. iOvation sends back a score that judges the authenticity of the content.
By default, this is set as a required data field when using a PowerReviews JavaScript Write-a-Review form. If you are using one of the PowerReviews APIs for review collection, we still recommend that you include it as a best practice for fraud prevention.
Downstream Impacts of iOvation
Without submitting iOvation data, PowerReviews cannot validate a reviewer's information. That content is therefore not included in any outbound review syndication, though it can still be posted to your own website.
